Jaguar celebrates 75 years with historic drive

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 04:00 PM PDT

Turning 75 years old is a pretty big deal, especially if you're an automaker that has stood the test of not just time, but also consumer preference. So when the big day comes that you turn the big 7-5, there's good reason for you to celebrate.

For Jaguar, that day is today, September 23rd. To celebrate their big day, the iconic British marque hosted a group of 75 individually-numbered Jaguar models for a nice two-day joy ride, passing by a number of historical locations, including the May Fair Hotel in London, the very site of the first Jaguar unveiling way back in 1935, on its way to its destination at the Goodwood Revival.

While the meet was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the celebration – it's not often you see some of the most legendary Jaguar models at the same place at the same time – Jaguar also took the time to introduce one of its latest toys, the 2011 Jaguar XKR 75.

There's no question that Jaguar ranks right up there among the most esteemed automakers to ever come out of the UK. That's why a celebration of this magnitude is most definitely deserved, especially for an automaker that has produced a multitude of classics and exotics in its 75 years of existence.

Happy 75th, Jaguar!

Check out the picture gallery to see some of the classic Jaguars that took part in the historic drive!

Renault Twingo Miss Sixty

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 03:30 PM PDT

After Fiat unveiled the 500 Pink with its clear feminine distinction, Renault decided that a special edition Twingo developed especially for its feminine customers would be an excellent idea. Called the Twingo Miss Sixty, this special edition was developed in cooperation to the Miss Sixty, the international fashion label of the Sixty group bringing forth yet another successful collaboration between an auto brand and a fashion designer. The car will be hitting the runway at the Paris Auto Show.

This special edition will be available in Bohemian Pink or Pearlescent black and is distinguished by a glamorous exterior with a rock'n'roll interior. The Miss Sixty Twingo will feature a pink-rimmed tachometer and speedometer, a pink-stitched leather steering wheel, and pearlescent black door mirror housings. It may look like pink and black markers have thrown up all over the exterior and the interior of the car, but this funky color combination is what gives this hatchback the glam rock look needed to attract the attention of the feistiest females around.

The new Twingo Miss Sixty will go on sale across Europe this November. Prices will be announced closer to the launch date.

Press release after the jump.

Seat Leon Cupra R310 White Edition

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 03:00 PM PDT

Remember the Seat Leon Cupra R 310 WCE revealed back in June? It’s okay, if you don’t because we’re going to give you a little refresher anyway. The Cupra R 310 WCE was a special edition Cupra R limited to only 200 units and powered by a 310 HP engine. We are assuming that special edition did well enough because Seat has announced a second version of the special edition called the R310 White Edition. It was built as a competitor for the Focus RS, but the competition will only lie in Sweden because that is the only region who will enjoy the white model.

Based on the Leon Cupra R the R310 White Edition is powered by the same 310 HP engine as its previous brother, but it will be distinguished by a white body decorated with two-tone strips. Seat is also offering sport 19-inch wheels, bucket seats, and a sports suspension.

The price for this beauty is 34,000 euro. There is one setback, however. Seat has announced that any customer with the desire to purchase this vehicle will have to take a special driving course in order to learn how to handle the car.

Fiat Punto Evo by Novitec

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 02:30 PM PDT

The Fiat Punto isn’t exactly a car that tuners rush to get their hands on. But with the right updates, even the Punto can be transformed into something that might get a second look, or maybe even three. Novitec ended up being the tuner up for such a challenge and the result of their hard work is a new upgrade package that improves both the look and performance of the Italian hatchback.

The exterior package includes Novitec headlamp moldings, a new Novitec spoiler, an X-one-look hood with power domes and integrated hood scoops, side sills, a rear spoiler, and a rear molding attachment. The package is finished by 17 or 18 inch wheels.

The 1.4-liter 16V MultiAir turbocharged gasoline engine has been tuned to deliver 160 HP and 246 NM of torque. This new upgrade helps the Fiat Punto sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 7.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 130 mph. As for the diesel version, the 1.6-liter 16V MultiJet now delivers 144 HP and 356 NM of torque.

Press release after the jump.

Artist renders 2012 BMW M6 Coupe

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 02:00 PM PDT

BMW's Concept 6 Series Coupe will only be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show next week and we already have some renderings of what the M6 Coupe could look like. We don't want to say the artist was a little overeager with the rendering – it actually looks pretty awesome – but it certainly wouldn't hurt to wait for the Concept 6 Series Coupe to be unveiled first. Not that it matters; we're just saying.

In any case, the 2012 M6 rendering, courtesy of a very promising artist from Bimmerboost, doesn't look a whole lot different from the 6-Series Concept Coupe with the exception of a new front bumper sans the longitudinal grilles present on the latter, the quad exhaust tips on the rear, and the addition of side skirts. Apart from that, we're thinking that, as always, the biggest difference between the 6-Series Concept Coupe and the M6 lies on what's under the hood of both cars.

We still have no idea what powertrain the 2012 M6 Coupe will come in, but it could come in something along the lines of a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with a few tweaks here and there to increase the car's overall output. Like we said, all of this is still conjecture so we won't dwell too much on it.

Subaru reveals details on a new-generation Boxer Engine

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 01:00 PM PDT

Subaru may have confirmed the next generation boxer engine at the beginning of this month, but now they are completing their announcement with actual details of the future engine. The new generation Boxer engine will be available with 2,500 cc or 2,000 cc displacement, both with 4 cylinders. The engine got a complete makeover while still managing to maintain a horizontally-opposed layout featuring benefits such as being lightweight and compact. The engine will also still feature a low center of gravity and superior vibration balance. This third generation engine will be produced at the Gunma Oizumi Plant and will be Subaru’s main engine.

The next generation engine will include the use of TGV (Tumble Generated Valve), the use of an EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) cooler, and an intake/exhaust Active Valve Control System. The engine will also feature lightweight primary moving parts, such as pistons and connecting rods, and a compact oil pump. All of these features will lead to improved fuel efficiency and a 30% reduction in friction loss.

Customers will be able to check out the new engine when it first makes it appearance in the 2011 Forester in Australia. After that, the Impreza, Liberty, and Exiga will also host the engine with those models coming out throughout 2011.

Press release after the jump.

Jesse James receives his new Hennessey VelociRaptor 575

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 12:00 PM PDT

In our world, we don't really give particular importance to the whole Jesse James/Sandra Bullock saga; we leave that to the tabloid pages. See, when it comes down to it, we don't really care about the whole cheating scandal the West Coast Chopper-builder was recently involved in. What we do care about is the fact that James recently purchased a brand-spankin' new Hennessey VelociRaptor 575 complete with the tune-up kit that the TV star reportedly paid somewhere around $11,000 to bang up on his new truck.

There's also a video of James' new monster pick-up being given a dyno test by the folks at Hennessey where the supercharged monster produced 496 horsepower and about 473 lb/ft of torque. You want to hear the only kind of sound that's music to the ears of all auto enthusiasts?

Check out the video and amp up the volume. That is, if you can handle the sound of a VelociRaptor 575 in the middle of a dyno test.

A first look at a lap around the US Grand Prix track in Austin

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 11:00 AM PDT

The 2012 US Grand Prix that's going to be held in Austin, Texas may be a long ways away for us fans of Formula One, but for the race track developers, the timeline to build the track and get it ready in time for the 2012 season is about as truncated as it can get.

There's very little margin for error here and with recent complications on the schedule of the start of construction, the whole process in developing, building, and testing the track may come down to the proverbial checkered flag. We're still hoping that the timeline gets ironed out soon enough and that the building of the Hermann Tilke-designed track in Austin, Texas begins as soon as possible.

Of course, the entire thing is out of our control. So we're going to settle for showing you the first rendering of a sample lap around the racetrack. Sure, it's all the work of a computer – not to mention the clear bias towards Ferrari – but it does give us the first look at how a Formula One racecar can navigate around the 3.4-mile circuit with the 20 corners and all the elevation changes.

From what we've seen, the track looks very promising and the number of overtaking opportunities it presents in a single lap is encouraging. We're just hoping that everybody involved in this gargantuan project can work together fast and efficient enough to get the track ready for its world debut in 2012.

Citroen releases teaser video of DS3 Rally racer

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 10:00 AM PDT

To say that the new Citroen DS3 rally car has some big shoes to fill is like saying that Megan Fox is hot. Well, duh.

Following in the footsteps of the C4 rally car isn't always the best place to get your feet wet in the world of rally. This is especially true since the C4, which has been running for four years, already has a laundry list of accomplishments, including three driver's championships and two manufacturer's championships. Can you take the heat, DS3?

Nevertheless, Citroen is ready to unveil their next-generation rally race, which was built with a smaller, normally aspirated engine to adhere to the new rules that are going to be enforced in the World Rally Championship beginning in the 2011 season.

The C3 rally car is scheduled to have its public unveiling at the Paris Motor Show next week. But before that, Citroen has released a new teaser video of the new rally car. We're dying to find out how the DS3 can handle the enormous shadow cast by its predecessor. Although we won't be able to find that out until next year, we're likewise excited to see how the new rally car looks.

Nissan prepares Sentra coupe

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 09:30 AM PDT

It seems Nissan has been at the drawing board as they are ready to dish out a variety of refreshers and new models. There will be a redesigned version for all of the Versa subcompact 4- and 5-door models, the Sentra compact sedan, and the Altima midsize coupe, plus there will be a new sedan in the next two years. Nissan is also stating that they will be bringing out some more new models, but these big plans do not include a revival of the old 240SX. According to Nissan, the car will not sell on the market and an estimated number of 30,000 units a year is not convincing.

So, instead of coming out with a totally new model, Nissan plans on creating a coupe version of the current Sentra. Future Nissans have to be ’high-volume and high-share kind of products", he says. "I'm not looking to fill every niche, every opportunity. If I let my product planners go, they could come up with 15 other cars we should have."

As for the next generation Altima, it will be radically changed. Dealers have already seen the shortened version and seem to be impressed: "They're probably more excited than I've ever seen them."
