| Ford F-150 EcoBoost Baja Edition Posted: 24 Sep 2010 11:40 PM PDT Ford will enter the world-famous Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 with an F-150 EcoBoost. The Baja 1000 race is part of an extensive torture test program by Ford for customers to see for themselves the extreme durability testing and development of the class-leading EcoBoost truck engine. The Ford F-150 EcoBoost is powered by 3.5-liter engine with twin turbochargers and direct fuel injection and an output of 365 HP at 5,000 rpm and 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,500 rpm, all this on regular fuel. "The desert racing environment has been a tremendous laboratory for Ford over the years," said Eric Kuehn, chief engineer of the 2011 F-150. "We're eager to watch the 3.5-liter EcoBoost truck engine prove its durability, reliability, performance and fuel economy in this tough setting. In addition to durability, reliability and top performance, we expect the EcoBoost to get outstanding fuel mileage to the point of saving one or two fuel stops during the race." Press release after the jump. Ford F-150 EcoBoost Baja Edition originally appeared on topspeed.com on Friday, 24 September 2010 23:40 EST. |
| Posted: 24 Sep 2010 09:00 PM PDT Jaguar will continue celebrating its 75th anniversary with the unveiling of a new concept car at the Paris Auto Show. The new concept will be called the C-X75 and shows the possibilities of combining design, performance, and a luxury interior with sustainable technology. The C-X75 will make its world debut on September 30th, but details may surface earlier as Jaguar will be launching a special microsite for the sports car. This concept will bring a big change for Jaguar's previous design language of the oval, E-type-inspired grille that has identified Jaguar's sports cars. Instead, Jaguar will be offering a single grille design for both sedan and sports cars. This will be the design language that will be used in the next XK. It is rumored that the concept will feature a hybrid drive-train consisting of a V6 petrol combined with an electric engine and the ZF's new eight-speed auto transmission. More details and images about the concept will be revealed closer to its unveiling. Jaguar C-X75 originally appeared on topspeed.com on Friday, 24 September 2010 21:00 EST. |
| A Little Drinking On The Job Proves Costly For Chrysler Employees Posted: 24 Sep 2010 08:00 PM PDT While Chrysler continues to struggle financially, employees have found their own way of getting over it. Outside of the plant, 15 workers have taken up drinking, and possibly even smoking pot, as a way to ease the pain. They might need to hit the bar because Chrysler has just announced that they all have been suspended indefinitely without pay. This wasn’t just a one day occurrence either. These workers at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant have been hitting the bottles for ten days. It didn’t take long for Chrysler to identify each one of the 15 men and notify them that they had lost their jobs within 36 hours. Although the video evidence is about as clear as a perfect summer’s day, Chrysler must still obey its protocol when releasing employees. The company also stressed that each one of their vehicles is screened for quality control and an issue like this will not affect the vehicles in any way. Hit the jump to read the press release and see the news video. | What Was The Stig's Favorite Car? Posted: 24 Sep 2010 07:00 PM PDT Ever since the man in the white suit came out as Ben Collins, the news has been rolling on out to no doubt capitalize on such a popular topic of conversation. Collins was recently asked by The Daily Telegraph what his favorite car was during his time as the famous Stig. One might think it would have been a Ferrari or a Lamborghini, but you would be very wrong. His favorite car was the little Toyota Aygo, which was used to play car football. He said: "We had about five or six touring car drivers on that day and we unanimously agreed we hadn’t had that much fun in a car that we could remember. "The Aygo was the most fun although it was the cheapest." That's all well and good, but what about the high performance machines? For this category, Collins picked the Bugatti Veyron Super Sports as the best high-end vehicle during his time on Top Gear, stating that it "was the fastest thing we ever drove". So, what car does The Stig hate more than any others? That's fairly easy if you remember one of the biggest wrecks Collins had during his time on the show. During a test lap, he lost control of a Koenigsegg and damaged the very rare machine by putting it into some tires. To find out more about Collins, you can pick up his new book, The Man in the White Suit: The Stig. | Posted: 24 Sep 2010 06:30 PM PDT The UK Police Fleet has just received the capability of a slew of new members. Hyundai was able to get a ‘preferred supplier’ status issued by the National Association of Police Fleet Managers and is looking into turning the i20, i30, ix35 (known as the Tucson in the States), Santa Fe, and iLoad into street-protecting police cruisers. Tony Whitehorn, said: "Anyone buying a car needs to make sure that they are getting the best possible package for their money. That's especially true when you are buying thousands of vehicles and spending taxpayers' money! The quality, reliability, resale value and performance of Hyundai vehicles has shone through and they've been given the green light to carry a blue light." The UK police has chosen the ix35 because it is powerful and spacious enough to replace larger, more expensive off-roaders which have traditionally been the first choice for traffic police. In the UK the ix35 is offered with a choice of five engines, with output ranging from 133 to 181 HP. Press release after the jump. | Porsche Panamera towing machine Posted: 24 Sep 2010 06:00 PM PDT Most people take comfort in knowing that when they get behind the wheel of their favorite sports car, they can tackle the roads at speeds that are simply unknown to those of us driving around in our lame family cars. Now, those same people can rest assured that the car that can zip and zoom down the road is the very same car that can tack on a trailer and tow away someone else’s favorite ride. Confused? Probably. Curious? Darn right! Take a look at the picture up top and you’ll notice that the vehicle serving as a mean towing vehicle is not the usual grimy truck you see on the side of the road. No, this is the beautiful and the luxurious Porsche Panamera. And being carried along at the tail end of this modern tow truck is a Lotus Exige. It may seem crazy, but what’s even crazier - and simply fantastic - is that this Porsche Panamera is the ultimate proof that the German sedan is indeed a powerful car! The Panamera is offered with a choice of a V6 or a V8 engine, with power ranging from 300 to 500 bhp depending on the trim level. Each engine is mated to a manual six-speed gearbox or a seven-speed Double-Clutch Gearbox (PDK). The Exige, on the other hand, is powered by a 1.8 liter engine that develops a total of 217 hp, or 257 hp for the S version. These specifications only lead us to the very same conclusion as illustrated in the picture shown; the Panamera has more than enough power to tow a car just like it! | Infiniti reveals sketches of 2013 luxury EV Posted: 24 Sep 2010 05:30 PM PDT Rumors of an electric Infiniti started back in 2009, but today the company has finally unveiled a sketch of its first electric vehicle and confirmed that it will be launched in 2013. The Infiniti’s electric car will be based on the Nissan Leaf platform, but it will be more luxury oriented and will also deliver better performance. It is already known that it will be a four-seater model, perfect for every-day use. Since Infiniti’s model will be based off of the Nissan Leaf then we can only assume it will carry the same technology under its hood. The Leaf features laminated lithium ion cells that are capable of delivering over 90 kW. The battery pack sends it stored energy to the Leaf's front mounted electric drive motor that only outputs 80 of those kilowatts for a maximum output of 107 HP. The sketch was shown by Infiniti's Senior Vice President, Mr Andy Palmer, during a ceremony held to mark the opening of the Infiniti Centre Piccadilly in London. The electric car is said to be befitting of the brand’s promise of "Inspired Performance". | Toyota Dominates The 2010 Motorist Choice Awards Posted: 24 Sep 2010 05:00 PM PDT Americans hate Toyota and they will never buy any of their cars again after all those lies, right? Absolutely not. This may be what some people would like everyone to think, but the truth of the matter is that, according to a consumer driven study developed by Intellichoice and AutoPacific, Toyota is at the top of the 2010 Motorist Choice Awards. Toyota and Lexus vehicles won nine out of the 30 available awards. In its fifth year, the study gave awards to the Toyota Prius, Lexus RX Hybrid, Lexus IS, Toyota Sequoia, Toyota Sienna, Toyota Yaris and the Lexus LS. Over 42,000 people where pooled. "From an emotional standpoint these awards are a reflection of how cars fit into people’s daily lives, the tasks they fulfill on a day-to-day basis and the image people have of their vehicles," says Charlie Vogelheim, Executive Editor of IntelliChoice. The Motorist Choice Awards ranks cars by concepts, such as High Tech, Fun to Drive, and Value Car. Each different category was then broken down into Popular Brand and Premium Brand. Other winners include the Audi A6, Volvo C30, and the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. Hit the jump to see all the winners and the press release.
