We want this Porsche Lego with its own working suspension

Posted: 26 Sep 2010 12:00 PM PDT

The amazing thing with Lego is that you can practically build anything with it and, yes, that even includes a Porsche with its own working suspension.

This isn't the first time we've seen a sports car built with Legos – remember the Veyron with the working gearbox? – and we sure as hope it won't be the last. Whether you're a nine-year old kid getting his first exposure into building complicated Lego pieces or a 30-year old that appreciates a uniquely built Porsche made out of these blocks, seeing things like this never gets old.

From the detailed construction to the ingenuity of including a working suspension, there's a whole lot to love about this Lego Porsche. Not only does it combine our present-day fascination with Porsches, but it also uses a toy that all of us have come to enjoy since our childhood days.

It may seem a little juvenile to some, but don't pretend that you wouldn't want having this on your desk to show off to your friends because we sure as heck would.

Scion wants you to "Take on the Machine"

Posted: 26 Sep 2010 06:00 AM PDT

The increasing number of automakers that have dipped their fingers in the augmented reality experience bucket have clearly found a new way to catch the attention of their prospective customers.

In promoting the 2011 Scion tC, Scion has thought of a way to get people behind the wheel of a tC through their new interactive game called 'Take on the Machine'.

The game consists of driving a virtual tC with a virtual steering wheel with the objective being to avoid all of the obstacles throughout the city to achieve the fastest possible time. It's a little tricky in the beginning, especially because of how the steering wheel works, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes a heck of a lot of fun to do, especially if you can play it for shots with your friends.

If you're not into the whole hi-tech virtual steering wheel mode, there's an option to play the game using your computer's keyboard. Not as fun as the former, but definitely less complicated.

Hop on over to the Scion website and see if you have what it takes to "take on the machine".

Video: Volkswagen uses Indian newspaper for new audio ad

Posted: 25 Sep 2010 11:00 PM PDT

Now here's something you don't see in your newspapers everyday.

Volkswagen has a new and ingenious advertising ploy, one that involves a newspaper, an audio chip, and a voice recording. Yeah, we've never seen this one before.

The German manufacturer recently teamed up with Indian newspaper, The Times of India, for a pretty unique advertisement that allows you to listen to a voice-recorded message while looking at a whole page ad for Volkswagen.

Talk about a morning jolt, huh? Apparently, the voice-recorded spiel begins talking when you open the page to where the advertisement is as shown in the video. The message isn't all too clear, but it's unmistakably a promo message for the new Volkswagen Vento.

We don't know a good deal about how Volkswagen and The Times of India were able to make this work, but according to the people of Wired, the ad apparently uses a photodiode – it's an object that controls an electric current depending on the presence of a light source - on the audio chip. The message is then activated whenever a reader opens to the page where the advertisement's ad and stops as soon as he leafs through to another page.

That's a lot of electrical information that just passed in on one ear and came out the other, but if you want to see how the ad works, you can do so by checking out the video.

The MINI Core: Visual interpretation of the next-generation MINI

Posted: 25 Sep 2010 06:40 PM PDT

If we only had an ounce of artistic talent in our bodies, then we'd probably spend more time making our own concept renderings than sitting here in awe at the works of some of these young, hotshot designers.

But alas, we have neither the skills nor the imagination for this type of work so we'll just settle for what we do best: talking about them.

This is the work of one Neal Steinhoff from Munich University of Applied Sciences. Obviously, just by the look of his design, you should know that it's a MINI. Steinhoff is calling it the "MINI Core", which is his interpretation of what the next-generation MINI could look like. In one word: nice work. Okay, that was two words, but you get the point.

Relying on an objective to make a concept that adheres to functionality, individualization, and concept novelty, Steinhoff's MINI Core draws a lot of its design from the current MINI R56. The young designer does put a couple of new wrinkles on his concept, including the round fog lamps, the addition of a rear bumper diffuser, the arranged slot air intakes, and a more aggressive overall outline that makes the MINI Core a concept rendering that we wouldn't mind seeing out on the road in the future.

Video: Maserati Quattroporte funeral hearse in transit

Posted: 25 Sep 2010 12:00 PM PDT

Earlier this year, we had the privilege of showing you a truly one-of-a-kind Maserati Quattroporte. It didn't come with a carload of unique features or state-of-the-art gadgetry, but it did make a person consider how he'd want to have his last ride on the planet be; on a car that's replete with style and luxury.

Months after we introduced the Maserati Quattroporte funeral hearse, we finally see the car out on the road, albeit it stowed behind a trailer. Regardless of what you may think of the Quattroporte hearse, you have to give a ton of credit to Maserati for having one of its own turned into, well, this. You don't see any Ferrari hearses out on the road, do you?

We don't know where the Quattroporte funeral hearse was headed, but we're assuming that it's some place that isn't bouncing with joy and laughter. That being said, there's something to admire about a person being transported to their resting place in a Quattroporte; at the very least, that person sure knows how to ride out of this world in style.

David Beckham drives a $40,000 Jeep Wrangler just like the rest of us

Posted: 25 Sep 2010 06:00 AM PDT

How does a man who is the middle of a five-year, $250 million contract to play soccer in America only drive a car that costs 'only' $40,000?

We pose that question after photos of Los Angeles Galaxy star David Beckham surfaced with him behind the wheel of a Jeep Wrangler in Beverly Hills, recently. According to the tabs, Beckham was on his way home to his sprawling mansion after picking up his eldest son, Brooklyn, 11, from school.

We certainly know that this isn't the only car in the Beckham household – they probably have a million of them at their estate – but it's a little comforting to see one of the most recognizable faces in the world driving an imposing, everyday off-roader that costs a little less than one of his wife's bags in one of the most luxurious neighborhoods in the world. And he looks comfortable doing it, too.

Sort of makes you like Beckham, even for just a little bit. That is, until you realize that he is David Beckham, at which time, all those feelings of envy and jealousy come flooding back in.
