Lets take a little brake from all the Paris Auto Show news and turn our attention to the eleventh episode of the "Corvette Racing Series." In this latest episode fans speak their mind and express their affection for the Chevrolet Corvette and the Corvette Racing team. Of course we still have racing Corvette, revving engines and incredible sounds in the background, but you will also see famous people talking about their love for the Corvette! The 2010 season marks Corvette Racing's 12th year in international road racing. The team made its competition debut in February 1999 in the Daytona 24-hour race, finishing third and 12th. From that modest start, Corvette Racing has become one of the world's most successful production sports car teams, winning eight consecutive ALMS GT1 manufacturers and team championships and seven straight ALMS GT1 drivers' titles. | Posted: 30 Sep 2010 12:13 PM PDT The last model in Lotus’ display at the Paris Auto Show is the Elan, a 2+2 sports car that will go on sale in the autumn of 2013 at a price of £75,000 ($118,000 at the current rates). The 2013 Elan is powered by a 4.0 liter V6 engine that delivers 450 HP and 465 Nm of torque. The engine will be combined with the new KERS system and will sprint the car from 0 to 60 mph in 3,5 seconds, while top speed will be 192 mph. "If there was ever a car to make you drive the long way home, it's the Elan. Perfect for both road and track, the Elan not only ticks all the boxes, it creates new ones too. The Elan will convert people to Lotus, I would challenge people not to become addicted to driving it. It will also go a long way towards dispelling the old misconceptions about this class, that in order to have high performance you must sacrifice usability – those days are gone." Press release after the jump. Lotus Elan originally appeared on topspeed.com on Thursday, 30 September 2010 12:13 EST. |
| Posted: 30 Sep 2010 11:46 AM PDT Lotus made a step forward at this year’s Paris Auto Show with the unveiling of the company’s first hybrid four door super saloon. Called Eterne, the new model will go on sale in early 2015 and will be priced at £120,000 (around $190,000 at the current rates). The 2015 Eterne’s powertrain will combine a 5,0 liter V8 engine with a hybrid gearbox with integrated electric motors and KERS. The total output of 620 HP and 720 NM of torque will help the Eterne to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds and to hit a top speed of 195 mph. "The Eterne is sensational to look and as with the rest of the range it also over delivers in all other aspects as well. Similar to the Elite, it's a car of perfect contradictions, it's compact yet spacious, high performing yet low emitting, relative lightweight yet still reassuringly solid. We truly believe that there is a market for the Eterne, there is nothing else like it out there both in terms of design, capacity and performance. The biggest difference between the Eterne and it's class competitors is that it's not an evolution of an existing two-door model, it's a deliberate and considered stand-alone creation. It's the ultimate four door sports car." Press release after the jump. Lotus Eterne originally appeared on topspeed.com on Thursday, 30 September 2010 11:46 EST. |
| Posted: 30 Sep 2010 11:33 AM PDT It seems that Lotus was pretty busy this year before the Paris Auto Show. Next to the new generation Esprit, Lotus will also bring the new Elise that will go on sale in 2015 at a price of £35,000 ($55,000 at the current exchange rates). The 2015 Elise is powered by a 2,0 liter four-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 320 HP and 330 NM of torque. The engine is mated to the new start-stop technology and will sprint the car from 0 to 60 mph in 4,3 seconds. Top speed is 167 mph. "The Elise you can buy now is still a fantastic car, make no mistake, Lotus remain very proud of it, but this is a natural progression for us moving forward. The Elise 2015 will also be class-leading in terms of performance and efficiency but it will do more than that it will take the Elise model to the forefront of its class across the board. The design of the Elise 2015 is perfect for the target market, it's young, strong, confident, verging on ruthless, it mirrors the engineering and technology. It's the next generation Elise for a new generation of Lotus drivers." Press release after the jump. Lotus Elise originally appeared on topspeed.com on Thursday, 30 September 2010 11:33 EST. |
| Posted: 30 Sep 2010 11:14 AM PDT The legend is back! Lotus has unveiled today the new Esprit sports car. Described as the "ultimate Lotus," the new Esprit will go into production at the end of 2012, with first deliveries to begin in 2013. Lotus announced an estimated price of £110,000 ($175,000 at the current rates). The 2013 Esprit will be powered by a 5.0 liter V8 engine that delivers an impressive 620 HP and 720 NM of torque. With a weight of 1450 kilos, the new Esprit will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3,4 seconds and will hit a top speed of 205 mph. "One has to be very careful when taking on the challenge of reinventing such an iconic classic as the Esprit – everyone has an opinion. There's a fine balance between acknowledging the greatness of the past whilst at the same time rapidly leaping forward to the future and ensuring that this car not only does the name Esprit justice but also the Lotus brand. I think we've managed to find the balance and in doing so created a new icon, a car people will find hard to resist." | Posted: 30 Sep 2010 11:04 AM PDT Chevrolet has displayed today at the Paris Auto Show the Corvette ZR1 C6.R that will compete at the 24 hours Le Mans in the GT2 Class and in the American Le Mans series. The C6.R version is distinguished by a new front splitter, an open grille which forces air into the engine, headlamps in aero design, carbon fiber front fenders, front and rear brake ducts, a carbon fiber roof, carbon ceramic brakes mated to six piston calipers at the front and four piston caliper brakes at the rear. Under the hood of the ZR1 lies an engine which is the most powerful built for a production model by Chevrolet to date. Because of the GT racing regulations, the final displacements and power outputs of the two engines vary slightly, nevertheless many of the processes and materials used for making the hand-built engines of the ZR1 stem directly from Chevrolet Racing; the dry sump lubrication system and titanium values are examples.
