If you ask us, we don't see this as a problem more than it is a Godsend. Can you imagine living in a neighborhood that has more supercars than, well, houses? Unfortunately, not everybody shares our enthusiasm for revving engines and high-octane exotics. According to Bloomberg, residents of the Knightbridge district, one of London's most exclusive neighborhoods, have become a little weary of all the supercars loitering in the area with one resident even going so far as saying that it sounds like Le Mans all day and everyday. The report also goes on and says that residents of Knightbridge have started protest groups in an effort to curtail the excessive noise these cars produce, especially during the wee hours of the morning when everybody's trying to get some sleep. The increasing number of supercars in the area are mostly owned by wealthy Middle Easterners that are on vacation in London. With the Middle Eastern summer in full swing, these people often fly to London – with supercars in tow – to leave the sweltering heat of their respective countries. Unfortunately, a lot of Londoners are become more and more agitated at these people, not because they're going to their neighborhood, but because they're bringing their "abhorrently" noisy rides with them. | TopSpeed's 2010 Paris Auto Show Recap: The Show and Concept Cars Day 1 and Day 2 Posted: 02 Oct 2010 11:00 AM PDT Last night, we published an nice overview of the production models at the Paris Motor Show for the first day. Hard to believe the unveilings are about over, but it was one heck of a day to say the least. It was hard not to love most of the vehicles that were shown at the motor show, as most where stunningly gorgeous, powered by decent motors and some will be extremely rare. Take for instance the Ferrari SA APERTA. Only 80 of these machines will be made and the lucky people who purchase them will get a fantastic front-mounted V12. We also had the new Peugeot 508, a French made sedan that will take the place of the average in nearly every way, 407. The exterior design is stunning and the interior is wonderfully laid out. We’re not sure how well it will be built, but Peugeot’s been getting better as of late, as we’ll just have to wait and see. Concepts on the hand, don’t have any of these flaws. It doesn’t matter how well there built or how many will be made, because, none will be. That’s why we love them. Automakers get to design unique machines that might be on our roads in the future. Show cars are vehicles that will be made, but not exactly the way the appear at the moment. Hit the jump to see them, TopSpeed's 2010 Paris Auto Show Recap: The Show and Concept Cars Day 1 and Day 2 originally appeared on topspeed.com on Saturday, 2 October 2010 11:00 EST. |
| Ian Fleming's classic AC Aceca Coupe sells at auction for $125,000 Posted: 02 Oct 2010 06:00 AM PDT James Bond may have gotten all the fame – and the ladies, for that matter - but the man behind the secret agent, Ian Fleming, certainly doesn't need any introductions himself. The latter may not be as famous as the man he created, but for those within the auto industry, Fleming holds a soft spot in our hearts for his love of cars. You can even say that Bond, when it comes to automobile taste, is a reflection of his creator. Fleming was known to have owned a number of Bentleys in his life and at last week's Bonhams' Goodwood revival sale, a car that once belonged to the beloved author was put up for auction. That car was an AC Aceca Coupe, one of only six surviving models anywhere in the world. Knowing that Fleming formerly owned it, bidding for the Aceca Coupe was fast and heavy. In the end, the AC Aceca Coupe was sold for an impressive £80,000, which is somewhere around $125,000 at the current exchange rates. We don't know if we'd shell out that much money to buy a car, but considering the history and the name – and status – of the man behind James Bond, whoever won the AC Aceca Coupe probably isn't complaining a whole lot. | Audi will bring more RS models to the US market Posted: 01 Oct 2010 08:00 PM PDT During a recent interview Audi Quattro General Manger of Development Stephan Reil talked about the company’s plans for the US market. It seems that next to the TT-RS, America is likely to have even more performance-oriented RS models. First of them will be the RS5, set to come here in 2012 as a 2013 model. The delay is caused by an update that is prepared for the entire A5 line-up. A new RS4 is possible to be revealed next year. But the SUVs in Audi’s line-up will not receive an RS version. According to Mr. Reil, the letters ’RS’ stand for "ultimate performance, driving dynamics, and what is technically possible for a SUV." The only SUV that could be considered for this update is the Q7 V12 TDI but it weights to much and it can not hit the’ driving dynamics’ bar. Also the A8 won’t get a RS package; it is just too big. | Posted: 01 Oct 2010 05:00 PM PDT Citroen has unveiled the DS3 WRC rally car at the Paris Auto Show. This new model will replace the C4 WRC in the 2011 World Rally Championship. Official debut will be made at the Rally Sweden in February 2011. There will be two teams entering the competition: Sébastien Loeb / Daniel Elena and Sébastien Ogier / Julien Ingrassia. As a reminder, Ford already announced its participation in this contest with the new Fiesta RS WRC. The DS3 WRC is powered by a 1.6-liter direct-injection turbocharged engine that delivers 300 HP. It also features cooling vents and aerodynamic parts designed to improve road holding at high speeds. The four-wheel-drive transmission incorporates a six-gear sequential gearbox and front and rear mechanical differentials. The new FIA rules ban costly materials such as titanium and carbon-fibre, and standardise certain parts like the turbocharger and limit the changes that can be made to the vehicle during its lifetime. Rally nevertheless remains a great testing ground for driving new advances in vehicle technology. Press release after the jump.
