Ford F-150 by Custom Shop coming to SEMA

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 04:30 PM PDT

The SEMA Show fever started a long time ago, and will pretty much go on spiking until November when it takes place in the "entertainment capital of the world", Las Vegas. One of its feverish symptoms isn’t the Camaro or the new Mustang as originally expected. Instead, pick-ups like the Ford F-150 are quickly becoming vehicles of interest.

And after we saw this photo by Custom Shop featuring a 2011 F-150 FX2, we can absolutely see why this is the case. Custom Shop is planning on displaying the Ford pick-up with shaved door handles, a lightweight ARE tonneau cover, lightweight COR rims wearing Continental low-rolling-resistance tires, a Corsa free flow cat-back exhaust system, a larger cold air intake system, and Amsoil synthetic motor oil for the twin-turbo, direct injection gas engine. Speaking of the engine, it has been tuned to deliver 365 HP and 420 lbs-ft of torque.

The pick-up will be painted in a custom Pearl Black, white, silver, and copper paint job with a dual pinstripe border. The interior will get Katzkin seat covers, a custom Sony sound system, and LCD screens throughout the cabin.

Keep checking back with us to see what else the SEMA Auto Show has in store!

Spyker C8 Spyder is all chromed up

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 03:00 PM PDT

Some folks simply aren’t satisfied with the amount of attention brought on by driving a 400-horsepower super car. We don’t understand it, but that has to be the reason Spyker decided to dress up their C8 Spyder in chrome and bring it to China for the Beijing Auto Expo. This vehicle should be enough to satisfy some egos.

Some people may like chrome, including the Chinese fellow who reportedly scooped up this car for 4.8 million yuan, on their cars, but we're on the other side of the fence here. Chrome is good for a lot of things, including a car's rims, but painting an entire car, let alone a Spyker C8 Spyder, in chrome is not really what we'd call 'pleasant to the eyes'.

But hey, beauty is still in the eye of the beholder, and if someone liked it enough to part with 4.8 million yuan, then that's his decision.

We just wouldn't want to see this car on the other side of the road in the middle of the day, that is, unless we had some polarized glasses at our disposal.

Ducati Diavel

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 02:37 PM PDT

After months of speculation and spy photography the long wait is almost over, the Diavel will make its first public appearance at the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan 2-7 November.

Officially announcing the new model’s name ahead of the official presentation, the famous Italian manufacturer is about to turn another dream into reality, using the local Bolognese dialect word for “devil” in naming their new model Diavel – pronounced Dee-ah-vel.

The idea for the name was born early in the development process of the bike, when the prototype was assembled and wheeled out in front of a group of Ducati engineers and technicians for the first time. One person looking from the rear of the bike saw its silhouette and exclaimed in Bolognese dialect: “Ignurànt comm’ al diavel!” Meaning: “Evil, like the devil!”

Video: Scarab pays visit to Jay Leno's Garage

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 02:00 PM PDT

It's not out of the ordinary for a carmaker to ask Jay Leno for a little face time in his web segment, Jay Leno's Garage. That's how much clout the comedian has in the auto industry. The latest brand to bring their new vehicle – it’s actually a new car based on an old brand – is Scarab.

Ever heard of that brand? We can't blame you if you haven't. Scarab was originally a race car that was built for Lance Reventlow, an obscenely lucky heir to the Woolworth fortune who also happened to be an avid race car driver. During his time on the track, Reventflow raced using the Scarab, achieving remarkable success in the process. Unfortunately, the car's lifespan was shorter than expected and for years the car – and the brand – was covered up in the garage.

It wasn't until two years ago when Scarab Motorsports was brought back from the ashes in an attempt to re-introduce the car to a whole different generation of auto enthusiasts.

Fortunately, Leno is old enough to remember the original Scarab, a knowledge that proved to be useful when he was talking to Dick Kitzmiller, the new owner of Scarab Motorsports. The two white-haired fellows talked about the car in detail before the comedian was given the keys to take it out for a spin around the block.

A base model of the Scarab retails at $79,750, but if you add some optional items on the vehicle, you can expect the price tag to skyrocket.

Check out the video to see what Leno thinks of the Scarab.

Bumblebee Smashes Into Real Cop Car On Transformers Set

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 01:00 PM PDT

Sometimes things just happen. Like blowing out a tire on the last lap in Monte Carlo or slamming into the side of a real cop car on a movie set, these are things that just plain stink. The latter of those two just recently occurred on the set of Transformers 3, as the Chevrolet Camaro, nicknamed Bumblebee, smashed into the side of a real police cruiser in Washington D.C.

Apparently, a police vehicle was responding to a call and cut across the set while the cameras were rolling. The yellow Chevy collided with the police SUV, sending the officer to the hospital. Luckily, nobody was seriously injured.

This wasn't the only event to happen on the set of this film. Earlier this year Gabriela Cedillo had to be rushed to the hospital after the car she was driving was hit with a cable that had snapped off of a camera vehicle. The cable broke through the windshield and hit the driver in the head. Cedillo underwent surgery and her condition is improving.

Hit the jump to see two more videos of Bumblebee mistaking a real cop car for a Decepticon.

Cadillac plans "big halo" sedan

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 12:30 PM PDT

During an interview at the Paris Auto Show, Ed Welburn, General Motors Co.’s chief designer, talked about Cadillac’s future plans, and according to him, those plans include a new "big halo" sedan, other than the XTS.

"Right now they have mixed feelings about Cadillac, but they see the potential. There is a real opportunity for Cadillac to rightfully be considered the standard of the world again with the work that we are doing in design and engineering and the technologies that we will be bringing to market."

Cadillac will bring the XTS later next year. It will share a front-wheel-drive vehicle architecture with the Buick LaCrosse and Regal sedans. After it Cadillac will bring the ATS, a rear-wheel-drive model placed under the CTS.

But that’s not all; the company also has plans for a new sedan, larger than the XTS and priced to compete with the BMW 7-series and Mercedes-Benz S-class sedans. It will be priced somewhere in the $75k area.

Official Photos Of The Chrysler 200

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 12:00 PM PDT

Ladies and gentleman, the wait is now over. For the first time, we can now see the new Chrysler 200 in all its glory. The four-door sedan draws on the 200C concept for the 2009 Detroit Auto Show and it will replace the old and mostly despised Sebring. The 200 will get all-new front and rear lighting, fascias, and new mirrors and wheels. Yet, we can't help but think this is just a refreshed Sebring. Thankfully, the changes that were made have helped immensely.

Powering the new 200 will be either a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that can be connected four-speed or six-speed automatic, or the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. Chrysler has yet to release any power numbers for these motors, but we should have some details in the next few months.

The interior has also been redone. There are cabin upgrades such as a new instrument panel, redesigned seats, acoustic laminated glass for lower sound levels, and revamped HVAC outlets, although there are no full interior pictures at this time. We are hoping that the 200 continues with the current trend of well built interiors that started with the Dodge Ram and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Hit the jump to see the press release.

Porsche's future models put on hold

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 12:00 PM PDT

Just when we get brand new information for Porsche’s future baby SUV, it all gets squashed like an undercooked halibut in Hell’s Kitchen. We just got word that Porsche was working on the Cajun with its design being lead by Walter DeSilva himself, and already the news is getting tackled by Porsche’s new chairman Matthias Mueller. In an interview with the British magazine Autocar, Mueller said that Porsche’s new models have been put on hold. Yes, that includes their new baby Boxster too. Thankfully, we still get to see the revised version of the 911 which is unaffected by the chairman’s decision.

"We have to clarify how we are to spread out our product programme — below, above, left and right and so on — and we will see. " he said. "There are a lot of questions still to be answered and we want to create a business case [for them]. Then it will be possible."

Mueller also stated that the target of 150,000 units a year isn’t so important: "Of course we have to increase volume, but we first have to look at the other issues; we have to have profit and we intend to keep ourselves premium."

On top of posing for photographs and helping launch new bikes, Miller has worked on a few sitcoms, including How I Met Your Mother and Gary Unmarried. She is currently developing her own shoot focused on the military.
