| 1/43 scale model of a Lamborghini Reventon comes with a staggering price tag Posted: 11 Oct 2010 04:30 PM PDT How much would you really spend on a toy? If you said somewhere along the lines of about $100 tops, then congratulations, you're not as crazy as we think. But if you shell out anywhere from €25,000 to €88,000, then forgive us if we start to question your sanity. That's how much it's going to cost you if you ever decide to buy this 1/43 scale model of a Lamborghini Reventon. Don't worry, it's not like this collectible doesn't warrant that stratospheric price tag. After all, some parts of the Reventon come with some pretty expensive pieces of jewelry. For starters, the cars come in three materials: silver, gold, and platinum. Then there are the tail lights that are rubies and the headlights that are diamonds. The silver model will cost you €25,000 ($35,000), the gold model will set you back €55,000 ($77,000), and the platinum model will be sold for €88,000 ($123,000). So really, there's some reason behind the madness. But if you ask us, spending something close to that amount when you can buy a pretty nice sports car is a no brainer of a decision. We'll take the latter any day of the week as opposed to ponying up $123,000 on a car that even our fingers can't get into. 1/43 scale model of a Lamborghini Reventon comes with a staggering price tag originally appeared on topspeed.com on Monday, 11 October 2010 16:30 EST. |
| Lamborghini Jota sports some new wheels on the Nurburgring Posted: 11 Oct 2010 04:00 PM PDT We thought the winding road of the Lamborghini Jota, or whatever it will end up being called, was finally over when Lamborghini announced that the car would debut in Paris. Much to our disappointment, the Jota did not show itself at the French show, leaving us with a longer wait than we had originally anticipated. Now here we are again, battling to find out more information on the successor for the Murcielago, and tapping our feet for the final debut of the supercar. This new spy shot reveals a new set of camouflaged wheels (19" for the front and 20" for the rear) being tested by Bosch Automotive engineers. The shot was taken on the Nurburgring where Bosch was running extensive tests on the wheels for the brake setup. From what we know of the 2012 Lamborghini Jota, it will be powered by a 7.0L V12 engine producing more than 700bhp and 700Nm of torque. This engine will be mated to a seven-speed, paddleshift automated manual gearbox. This combination will allow the Jota to make the 0-60mph sprint in about three seconds while top speed will be in the 225mph area. The new supercar will weigh in at about 300lbs less than the Murcielago thanks to the extensive use of aluminum and carbon fiber. We have plenty of details on the Lamborghini Jota, but we would love an official confirmation, as well as the debut already. Plus we would be ecstatic if we found out what this thing was going to be called. | DJ Grilles' "Phantom Hidden Headlight" for the Chevrolet Camaro Posted: 11 Oct 2010 03:00 PM PDT The Chevrolet Camaro's popularity has certainly made auto tuners a lot of money. It's pretty easy to see why, too. The new Camaro is, after all, a pretty slick cat to accessorize. A company that calls themselves DJ Grilles is the latest to hop on this ever-growing bandwagon, thanks in large part to what they're calling the "Phantom Hidden Headlight Grille". Basically, the accessory is meant to make the Camaro look more formidable than it already is, thanks to a redesigned upper grille and lower air vent. There's also the option of removable bezels for both sides of the car. Held in place by a race-car inspired quarter turn fastener, you can remove and replace each bezel to make night driving that much more fun. The end result, as you can see in the photos, is a Camaro that looks a lot meaner than in its standard form, an achievement in its own right considering the latter already looks about as bad ass as a car can look. | Audi R8 GT Gets A Price: $198,000 Posted: 11 Oct 2010 02:30 PM PDT The original Audi R8 was one of the best bargains in the automotive world. It provided serious performance without the insanely high supercar price. Well, like most things, the R8 has gotten pricier over time and the newest version, the R8 GT, is right in line with Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Aston Martin. Only 333 will be made, so if you want one and have the money for one, call Audi soon because they might be gone. Only a third of that total number will be coming to the United States and each will cost $198,000. The R8 GT is a lighter and faster version of the normal R8. Audi has managed to put the car on a diet allowing it to lose around 220 pounds. Weight loss was key, but so was bulking up, so Audi added 35 more horses, or the same power as a Chevrolet Aveo. The 5.2-liter V10 now puts out 560 horsepower and will be connected to a single-clutch R-Tronic semi-automatic transmission. We're sure that gearbox is all well and good, but a manual option would have been nice. The Audi R8 GT will be hitting showrooms next summer. | Posted: 11 Oct 2010 02:00 PM PDT The new BMW M1 is one of our most anticipated vehicles and frankly, it can't arrive soon enough. And it seems, after skipping the Paris Auto Show to make some rounds on the streets of Paris, the new M1 will debut at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. That is, if the first round of prototype driving reports are correct. The newest M product is a bit old school compared to the rest of the range, as this model will feature a manual transmission, not those fancy paddle shift automatics. In the power department, we are banking on an upgraded twin-turbocharged inline-six that will pump out around 335 horsepower. All that power will run through the rear wheels via a torque vectoring M differential. In the style department, The BMW has multi-spoke wheels, drilled discs, and quad exhausts. It short, the M1 will look a bit like the 1-Series, just with a few extra steroid injections to pump everything up and out. After the Detroit show wraps up, the M1 will hit showrooms in May, with only 2,700 examples produced for the world's auto loving population. There will only be three colors available: Alpine White, Jet Black, and Valencia Orange Metallic. | SSC Ultimate Aero II - new images revealed Posted: 11 Oct 2010 01:00 PM PDT Shelby Supercars has released new details on the new generation Aero that is set to take on the Veyron SuperSports record. The SSC Aero II is powered by a 6.8-liter four-cam twin-turbo engine that develops an impressive 1,350 HP at 9,000 rpm. Top speed will be in the 440 km/h area or 273 mph. The current world record was set by Bugatti and is 267 mph. The Aero II will be offered with ABS, traction control, power steering, and Brembo carbon ceramic brakes. It will also be given an active air brake system inspired by airplanes. It will go on sale at a price of $970,000. Top Gear’s thoughts on the supercar: "A crush on your body, a blur on your vision. As magnetic and sinister as peering over the edge of a cliff at crashing waves hundreds of feet below. A headlong rush - a physical one towards the far-distance, and a metaphorical rush towards the edges of your own self-restraint that, for me at any rate, exposes a gaping shortfall of skill to make the best of torque that can, because there’s no traction control, produce extravagant wheelspin in the first three gears and occasionally in fourth beyond 100mph." That’s a fantastic description if we’ve ever heard one. And now that TopGear has revealed more details on the SSC Ultimate Aero II, we expect the official debut to come soon. Stay tuned! | Aston Martin Cygnet production begins in 2011 Posted: 11 Oct 2010 12:30 PM PDT For such a small car, the Aston Martin Cygnet sure is dragging itself out. The small city car has already been set for production and has already confirmed its trip over to our side of the pond, but Aston Martin felt it necessary to confirm that the smallest model ever built by Aston Martin will go into production in 2011 at the company's Gaydon headquarters in Warwickshire. "Whatever we do, we do right. If we do performance, we do performance; we don't downsize or compromise our sports cars. The Cygnet needs to satisfy the demands of emissions and space. It is a car without compromise, just like every other Aston Martin. "Our customers need a small car for urban and city use, and they want the right tools for the right job, to downsize creatively without compromising intelligence, artistry and personality." The Aston Martin Cygnet will be powered by a 1.3 liter engine delivering a total of 97-hp with a top speed of 105 mph. An electric-only version with a 60-mile range will arrive in 2013. In case you are in the mood to purchase the rebadged Toyota iQ, the Cygnet will be priced at $35,000 in the U.S., but remember, you’ll only get to buy one if you already own an Aston Martin. Those are the rules, but if you don’t have the luxury of owning an Aston then you can always move on to plan B: buy the Toyota. Press release after the jump. | Dodge drops teaser of 2011 Charger's interior Posted: 11 Oct 2010 12:00 PM PDT Looks like Dodge really did their homework in redesigning the 2011 Charger. Fresh off of releasing the first batch of photos of the 2011 Charger's exterior, Dodge has gone ahead and given us a glimpse of what to expect with their new muscle car's exterior. It's only one photo, but it does give us a nice view of the inside of the new Charger, which has been given its own facelift. Among the notable changes in the car include a brand-new, three-spoke steering wheel that upon closer inspection also has the new Dodge logo plastered on it. The door panels and the dashboard also seem to have been given their own respective tweaks while the center storage just below the transmission looks to be cleaner and more polished than in past models. So far, this is the only photo we have of the 2011 Charger's interior, but we expect more to come out soon as Dodge prepares to drop the cars at dealerships before the end of the year. | Posted: 11 Oct 2010 11:00 AM PDT Raeder Motorsport, a German racing team, will compete in the final two Nurburgring endurance races on October 16th and 30th in the SP 4T class with the prototype of an Audi TT RS. This racer was developed together by the Technical Development (Technischen Entwicklung/TE) and AUDI AG production as well as quattro GmbH. The car will be driven by Marc Hennerici and Christopher Mies in the test races. Audi has not revealed any details on the car’s performances yet, but the first images reveal lots of modifications when compared to a standard TT-RS, including a massive wing at the front and the rear, and a racing inspired interior. There aren’t any words on the engine updates either, but we expect a lot more compared to the 360 HP version confirmed for the US market. We’ll have to wait to get more details on the race car when it takes its place at the VLN Endurance Series on October 16th. Stay tuned for more updates!
