| Alfa Romeo Vittorio Jano Sport Wagon Concept by Marco Procaccini Posted: 09 Oct 2010 12:00 PM PDT
Marco Procaccini is no stranger to designing Alfa Romeo concepts, having done so with a number of Alfa concepts in the past. Now, the designer has a new study in the works called the Alfa Romeo Vittorio Jano Sports Wagon. To be fair, the concept doesn't completely blow our minds although it's not to say that we don't like it because we do, just not in a breathtaking kind of way. Among the notable design elements Procaccini used on the Vittorio Jano Sports Wagon is a more aggressive front end that comes with LED running lights on the front bumper. We're suckers for LED running lights so any car – concept or otherwise – that has these always gets a thumbs up from us. We also liked how Procaccini retained the inverted triangle front grille that Alfa Romeo has come to be known for. There's something to be said about a concept design that still retains part of the brand’s roots, and Procaccini was aware enough to include that in his concept. | Motor Trend compares the Bentley Mulsanne to the Hyundai Equus Posted: 09 Oct 2010 06:00 AM PDT
We suspect that either Motor Trend has gone off the deep end or they just have too much time on their hands, but whatever their rationale is, they decided that there's a reasonable comparison to be made between the venerable Bentley Mulsanne and the Hyundai Equus. You probably noticed that we didn't have any adjectives connected to the Equus because, to be honest, when it's sitting next to a Mulsanne, it doesn't need any adjectives. Okay, we may be coming down too hard on the Equus, which really isn't fair. It's a beautiful car that deserves praise on its own merits. But we'll call a spade a spade: the only thing the Equus has on the Mulsanne is that it's price tag is one-fifth of that of Bentley's luxury flagship sedan. Apart from that, comparing these two luxury cars is like comparing Kobe Bryant to Joe Johnson, which really isn't much of a comparison if you know how the NBA works. That said, the whole Bentley-Equus comparison by Motor Trend is still worth a watch only because it reinforces the Grand Canyon-sized disparity between the two. | From Wreck to Racecar; Hartmann Racing accepts the challenge Posted: 08 Oct 2010 11:00 PM PDT First off, a race car is a highly strung, precise piece of equipment, which is why they usually begin life as a brand new showroom model. Whether Danish company Hartmann Racing were in the mood for a challenge, or simply wanted a unique way to dispose of their championship-winning driver, James Thompson, is unclear. Clearly we’re kidding, but you get the point. For them to rebuild a race car from the mangled wreck that once resembled their European Touring Car Cup Honda Accord is clearly not the norm. Nevertheless, they have succeeded in resurrecting the car in a period of no less than 2 months or 600 man hours - an achievement they can definitely be proud of. "I did feel convinced that the car had had driven its last metres as a racing car," admitted team owner Hans Hartmann. "It had been a really big bang. Afterwards the data logging equipment told us that the car had reached a speed of 154 km/h when it hit the two stationary vehicles. But the car's power box, which we have developed and which has been used by Porsche in their LMP2 car, soon realized that it was unusual for a racing car to go that sideways over such a long distance, so it automatically cut off the fuel supply to the engine and all the electrics and thus prevented even bigger damage." Now the car is ready for its next challenge, the third and final round of FIA's European Touring Car Cup that will be run on October 16th-17th at Franciacorta in Italy, where James Thompson will defend his current championship lead. He’s a brave man for getting behind the wheel of a rebuild such as this, never mind racing it to the limit and beyond! | Chevrolet Corvette ZR6X Extreme Body Kit Posted: 08 Oct 2010 09:00 PM PDT The Chevrolet Corvette is no doubt one of the coolest sports car on the planet, and with a little help from the right tuner, it can become a dream come true. Let’s take the ZR6X Extreme Body Kit offered by ZR1bodykits.com for example. With just $7,599 your Corvette can become meaner than the original KITT itself. Yes, we know the original 1980’s Knight Industries Two Thousand was a 1982 Pontiac Firebird, but this car looks the part to take over the KnightRider of this generation, so the comparison is functional. Anyways, back to the car. All of the kit parts are made out of fiberglass using compression molds, but the front lip, sideskirts, and rear diffuser can be made out of carbon fiber if the customer so chooses. The widebody fenders are flared 1.5 inches wider than OEM ZR1 fenders and has s 3″ wider track than the Z / GS Models. And we can’t forget the 19" or 20" wheels painted in gloss black that make the car look more aggressive than ever. Bottom line: this is no doubt the best looking Corvette ever! What do you think? | The Girls Of The Paris Motor Show Posted: 08 Oct 2010 08:00 PM PDT Why do we go to France? The Eiffel Tower, the great food and wine, the wonderful romantic skyline, and the fantastic are galleries are all good reasons, but let’s face it, there’s nothing like gorgeous French women to put a smile on our faces. At this year’s Paris Motor Show, we had plenty of vehicles to look at and they were all just lovely in their own way. While we had to look at the vehicle because, that’s our job, it was hard not to sneak a glance at the models who were presenting the vehicles. We can be pretty sure they could care less about the cars they were in, but, oh my, did they look good. The good people at Auto123 had their photographers on hand to capture the beautiful women from the motor show, and feel free to tell us your favorite in the comment section below. Of course, if you have your own personal favorite that wasn’t listed, feel free to share it with us as well. | Dodge Challenger SRT8 by CULT Energy Drink Posted: 08 Oct 2010 07:00 PM PDT Anyone who loves a finely tuned automobile should be in attendance at the upcoming SEMA Show. This particular show creates a tuning atmosphere that can be appreciated by just about anyone, but can be truly heavenly to the avid enthusiasts that look for ways to enhance a car’s styling, functionality, comfort, convenience, and safety. I may be difficult to choose a crowd favorite amidst the growing number of improved models, but one vehicle may just be our favorite so far. Meet the special Dodge Challenger SRT8 customized by CULT Energy Drink. A feast for the eyes, this Challenger looks the part of an aggressively mean car prepared to take out anyone that may get in its way. One of the only details we know about the car is that it features a one-off, hand-fabricated wide body kit that provides some extra girth to the already masculine car. It also does not run on racing fuel. We can’t imagine that a car that looks like this doesn’t carry an equally insane motor to push out astronomical power. It is rumored that this Challenger is carrying a 5.7L V8 HEMI with its intake manifold, clearly, popping out of the car’s hood. To say that we are excited to see the Cult’s newest project at this year’s SEMA show is as much of an understatement as we can possibly muster. This car is simply badass and it’s one that could be perfectly suited for a next generation Mad Max! | Chevrolet Corvette Z06 by Romeo Ferraris Posted: 08 Oct 2010 06:00 PM PDT You might know Romeo Ferrari for their tuning packages for the Alfa Romeo Mito and the Mercedes C63 AMG, but today the tuner revealed a kit for the American sports car, the Corvette Z06. Like any tuner that respects themselves and their customers, the most important changes were made under the hood. The 7.0 liter V8 engine received a Vortech kit that increases the total output to an impressive 670 HP and 823 NM of torque. That’s more than even the ZR1. The kit includes a centrifugal compressor, an air-to-air aluminum intercooler, and high-flow injectors. With these changes, the Corvette Z06 will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, and to 124 mph in under 10 seconds. Top speed is 211 mph. As for the exterior package, it includes numerous carbon fiber aerodynamics parts, as well as 19" rims at the front and 20" at the back. The interior also gets numerous carbon fiber inserts and Recaro sports seats. Bumping up the sultry sounds of the vehicle is a new sports exhaust system with larger performance disk-brakes for increased stopping power. | Posted: 08 Oct 2010 05:00 PM PDT Mexico may be known for building most of our vehicles, including supposedly American products, but they haven't built a true sports car of their own. The good people over at Mastretta are looking to change all of that. The new MXT will be powered by a 2.0-liter Duratec inline-four with a turbocharger that will crank out 250 horsepower and 257 pound-feet of torque. That power should be plenty as the MXT is lightweight and very basic. The exterior of the car is nothing to write home about, but we hear it looks much better in person. The car uses an aluminum semi-monocoque construction with a carbon fiber belly pan and a steel subframe. Covering all those goodies is a body of fiberglass-reinforced plastic. The MXT is on its way to Europe with a price of £31,000 and £38,000. While that might seem cheap for a high-performance sports car, take a look at the specs and you'll change your mind in a heartbeat. The MXT is without ABS, stability control, and airbags, making this machine a deathtrap to the inexperienced driver. Convert that price from pounds to dollars and you’re looking at a vehicle that costs as much as a Ford Mustang GT500. We can't be certain that the MXT will be coming to America any time soon, as the company will look to build some sales momentum in Europe first. Not to mention passing emission tests in this country is harder than astrophysics. Still, it might be years behind the Mustang GT500, but it sure will turn more heads than one. 2011 Mastretta MXT originally appeared on topspeed.com on Friday, 8 October 2010 17:00 EST. |
